Whether we like it or not, stress creeps up on us every day due to a number of reasons. In such a busy and stressful stage of life, it’s hard not to feel pulled in every direction. We can’t keep stress away, but we can change the way we manage it. Here are some of our favorite things we do to reduce stress:

  • Meditate

If you’re feeling stressed or anxious, taking a few minutes out of your day to sit, breathe, and find inner peace is well worth it. Meditating does not cost money and anyone can do it. Simply find a quiet spot and focus your mind on one thing. The goal is to clear your mind of all the thoughts that stress you out and focus on something that makes you feel peaceful. Try meditating for a few minutes in the morning or even on your lunch break.

  • Yoga

Everyone here at East Coast Floats LOVES yoga! We practice yoga for stress relief, spiritual clarity, and simply to make our bodies more flexible. In a culture where everyone feels rushed, yoga–much like floating–is a place where we feel calm, relaxed, and centered. There are endless amounts of yoga studios in Orlando, with plenty of different class times, or you can unroll your own mat at home.

  • Deep breaths

Sometimes stress finds its way into our day even after meditating or doing yoga. Days are long and you never really know when the day will take a turn for the worse. Sometimes, something doesn’t go your way,  your boss gets mad at you, or there is an error in technology that is completely out of your hands. When something like this happens, we always step back and take three DEEP breaths. Those three deep breaths could save you from saying or doing something you regret.

  • Laugh it off

After you have taken your deep breaths and you feel calmer, you may just want to laugh off the situation so you can move forward with your day. Laughter truly is the best medicine. It releases endorphins–“the feel-good chemical”–and will help melt away your stress.

  • Exercise

Although we wish we exercised more, we KNOW that exercising significantly helps reduce stress. There’s nothing like sweating out stress to some high energy tunes with a great group of people. We prefer group classes because the support we get from our community makes all the difference.

  • Float weekly

We may be somewhat biased, but we definitely saved the best for last. Floating every week, however many times you can, will decrease stress levels and give you an hour of complete and utter silence and relaxation. You won’t be bothered by anyone or any sounds which makes most people feel safe and extremely relaxed. On top of feeling relaxed, studies show that floating actually lowers blood pressure and levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. One thing we love about floating above all other stress reducers is that the calming effects of floating last hours and sometimes days after floating.

Reducing stress in a busy world is not always easy, but with many ways to reduce stress, it’s worth it that we try. Make time for yourself. Know that you need to reduce stress one way or another and find a healthy way to do it. Here’s what we have going on at the spa right now:
